The uniqueness of the Institute's approaches and programs is reflected in its organizational structure, framework of operational innovations, and the quality of individuals it attracts. Voluntary experiences are available for specialists, interns, mentors, tutors, and others in LTI's educational, employment, residential, and social service projects and programs.

Central to the Institute's philosophy is the concept of youth advocacy, that is the general welfare of youth and the development and maintenance of leadership qualities and skills in the young. A Character Education curriculum component is central to all programs.
Aligned with the New York State Project SAVE legislation, LTI has identified and designed curriculum instruction in the Six Pillars of Character Education:

* Citizenship
By means of policy, posture and programs, LTI directs its major efforts, and invests its energies and resources in educational developmental programming and related research projects with and for young people and their families.
Through partnerships with schools and communities, LTI's successful programs are thematic content -specific addressing the New York State Learning Standards. The programs are easily replicated, interdisciplinary, and become an integral part of curriculum.
LTI enters the 21st century demonstrating the strongest commitment to children, families, and communities at risk by offering specialized care, coordinated services and effective programs.

Memberships
LTI is a Membership Corporation
Leadership Training Institute (LTI) is a New York State incorporation organized in 1968 as a membership corporation. LTI is designated a 501(c)(3) organization, community based, non-profit, and tax exempt.
A membership corporation, LTI is staffed, in the main, by volunteers who are specialists in management, applied research, economic and social analysis, program development, education and community development.
Operationally, the Institute maintains four levels of participation: Permanent Staff, Associate Staff, Consultant Staff, and Community Volunteer Staff. All are committed to human services and meeting community needs.
LTI’s corporate mission and primary focus is the development of leadership skills in the children and youth of disadvantaged minority communities. To further this goal, the Institute’s efforts and energies have been directed toward educational and developmental programs and related research projects with and for these young people and their families.
Interested individuals are invited to join Leadership Training Institute and to participate in LTI’s work.
The annual fee for membership is $25.00. As well, financial and other contributions are needed, valued, and appreciated.
